Abstract

This study represents the first analysis of the feeding and behavioral macroecology of territorial herbivorous damselfishes (Perciformes: Pomacentridae). This family constitutes an important group of reef fishes and it is distributed all over the Tropical seas. Its feeding activity is apparently important in structuring the communities which they inhabit. The analyses were conducted from the compilation of a database which had data from the authors and the literature. These data encompassed (a) bite rates (BR); (b) chasing rates; (c) maximum body size (found in the literature); (d) mean body size; (e) territory size; (f) sea surface temperature (SST).
